Advantageous - Part 1
You cannot have hope, if you do not have faith.
If you do not believe God is FOR YOU, hope will elude you
We have this hope (that God’s nature and promises are unchangeable) as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. Hebrews 6:19
If you do not believe God is for you, then you haven’t read (the Bible)
Our Redemption was promised from the beginning of time—Genesis 3 Fulfillment began at the birth of Jesus, death of Jesus, resurrection of Jesus and will be made complete upon His return Cannot set a timer on hope
God has no timeframe—1000 years is a day; a day is 1000 years Impatient child “Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.” Luke 2:25-26
- There is purpose in the “meanwhile”
“And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.”
Simeon was a man of great character because he allowed the “meanwhile”
to develop him, not discourage him
Only thru perseverance through the trial/challenge/meanwhile are you called righteous & devout
Secret to Perseverance: Actively seek the Lord—those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength (Isaiah 40:31)
- Maintain perspective in the “meanwhile”
“Looking”—to expect: the fulfillment of promises
We misplace our expectancy—instead of placing our hope in the Lord, we place our hope in the answer.
Often, we seek the answer, and the not the One who provides the answer
Our expectations become skewed when we look to the answer for our hope.
Hope doesn’t come in the form of an answer; it comes in the form of the Cross
- The “meanwhile” does end
“Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:
‘Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,
you now dismiss your servant in peace.
For my eyes have seen your salvation,
Which you have prepared in the sight of all people,
A light for revelation to the Gentiles
And for glory to your people Israel.”
Luke 2:27-32, NIV
- Be ready to go
Simeon heard the voice of the Lord & listened to the voice of the Lord
If Simeon disobeyed, he would have missed the opportunity
Position yourself to hear from God
God’s Will is always fulfilled—it’s just a matter if you get to experience the miracle or not
- The Lord exceeds our expectations
Simeon not only saw Jesus, he held Jesus
Hope is a choice.
It is a posture we have to choose—not just in the meanwhile.
We have to choose to trust God’s faithfulness.
We have to choose to believe God is faithful.
We have to choose to expect God’s goodness.
Psalm 18:30, ESV says, “This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.”
Do you believe that God is FOR YOU? Do you trust Him? Will you put your hope IN HIM?
Even in the obscurity of the meanwhile? Will you take refuge in Him?
